Security

Locked Notes is 'locked' because all data is stored in our database using 256-bit Strong Encryption. We encrypt all of your text using the password that you create when you start your account. We don't even save a copy of your password in our databases (it is 'hashed' and encrypted also). This means that...

Nobody at Locked Notes can ever read any of your data - even if we wanted to.
Should you forget your password, your data is effectively "gone". No one at Locked Notes can retrieve it for you.

In addition to encryption of the data in the database, Lockednotes now supports 128bit SSL encryption between your browser and our server. This means that data is encrypted as it travels accross your local/corporate network and then accross the internet. With the two levels of encryption combined, the end result is quite a secure solution. To take advantage of SSL encryption make sure that you do either one of the following.

Press the "Goto SSL Secure Login Mode" on the main screen before you login or...
Type https://www.lockednotes.com into your browser address bar (or save it in your shortcuts).

You may be prompted to accept a server certificate when you enter SSL mode. This is because, instead of using a 'trusted' commercial certificate authority such as Verisign, we created our own certificate. This saved us about $800. Given the nature of Lockednotes, we couldn't justify the expense.

Work in Progress

Locked Notes is officially 'beta', and is still very much a work in progress. Features that we plan to add in the future include:

Mobile phone support: It is our intention to provide access to Locked Notes that are formatted to be used in your standard mobile phone brower. Similar to what Google have done with GMail. To see the current state of that effort, point your phones browser to https://www.lockednotes.com/mobile
Print View: It is on the list of things to do to provide a page to "format for print".
Change Passwords: At this stage, there is no facility to change your password (remember, we have to decrypt all of your notes and then re-encrypt them with the new password). It is on the list of things to do.
SOAP Access: Presently there are facilities available to upload notes via SOAP. It is our intention to expand this library to allow notes to be read as well.

Supported Browsers

Locked Notes has been developed and tested using IE6 and Firefox 1.5. Whilst we prefer Firefox (it's a better browser!) we appreciate that many users will use IE and therefore provide full support for it. We haven't tested the site with older versions of IE, however expect that, as long as your browser supports simple cookies, javascript and CSS, then you should be fine.
